We are excited to introduce a new feature that will help make your IoT implementations even more reliable. We now support the ability to set up a Watchdog to monitor your device communications. This is a simple, yet powerful, feature.
Example:
Here is an example of how it works:
- A device’s Device Configuration has a watchdog enabled and set for 2 minutes. This means that each device needs to call in at least once every two minutes.
- Let’s say that device MOTION001 sends a message at 12:15:00.
- The next message is received at 12:16:05. The difference in time between the two messages is 1 minute and 5 seconds, or 65 seconds.
- The next time the device sends a message is at 18:15. This is 2 minutes and 10 seconds after the previous message. This is longer than our 2 minute timer. At this point, we will identify the user from the Device Repository whose device is not functioning as expected. A notification can then be sent to the user to advise that their device may be offline.
